今天的片段还是来自美剧《摩登家庭》(Modern Family)。

接着昨天的片段，Phil遇到了厉害的对手，就和儿子Luke一起演了场戏。

这种刻意在某个时间某个地点遇到某人的情景，英语中可以用stage来表示。

当stage做动词的时候，意思是“使某事发生”。所以比如这个片段里，Phil和Luke就是stage a meeting，刻意制造偶然相遇的假象。

比较常见的用法有a staged car accident，假车祸，遇上碰瓷的就可以说this is staged! 假的！

然后呢，这一段里Phil和Luke父子俩可以说合起来搞了个恶作剧，这在英语里可以用scheme，“密谋、图谋”的意思。

scheme做名词的时候，是“计划、方案”的意思，但基本上是带有负面意思的，所以故事里一般都是反派用scheme这个词。

The bad guy schemed to ruin it while the good guy planned to fix it. 坏人想把它毁掉，好人则计划把它修好。

这个词最常见的搭配是pyramid scheme，金字塔骗局，也就是庞氏骗局。

3、fundamentally

（1）基本地，从根本上说

【例句】He can be very charming, but he is fundamentally a bully.

他有时也会表现得很有魅力，但他本质上还是一个恃强凌弱的恶棍。

【例句】Fundamentally, it was a conventional bomber, but it had a number of interesting innovations.

从根本上说，那是一架常规轰炸机，但是有许多有意思的创新。

【例句】I don't think it has fundamentally altered the sport.

我认为它并没有从根本上改变这项运动。

4、advantage

（1）有利条件；优势

【例句】A good crowd will be a definite advantage to me and the rest of the team.

大批观众无疑将成为我和其他队员的一大优势。

（2）好处；益处；优点

【例句】This custom-built kitchen has many advantages over a standard one.

这间定制的厨房与标准厨房相比存在诸多优点。

【短语】to one's advantage 转变不利情况使之对…有利

【例句】They have not been able to turn today's protest to their advantage.

他们未能把今天的抗议转为己用。

5、squirt

（1）挤(液体)

【例句】He cut open his pie and squirted tomato sauce into it.

他切开自己的派，往里面挤了点番茄酱。

（2）n.喷，挤

【例句】It just needs a little squirt of oil.

它只需要喷一点油。

（3）朝…喷

【例句】I squirted him with water.

我朝他喷水。
