今天的片段来自美剧《摩登家庭》(Modern Family)。

Mitchell和Cameron想收养小孩，可是拍怀孕准妈妈的马屁可不是那么容易的。

这一段里，这位准妈妈把Mitchell和Cameron家的家具彻底重新摆了一遍，说是这样“风水”更好。

大家都知道，“风水”在英语中就差不多就是我们中文的拼音，Fengshui。今天就来讲讲其它一些源于中文的英语词。

比如我们经常会听到chop chop，其实是来源于广东话，意思是“快点，抓紧时间”。

如果去国外的中餐厅里吃东西，那一定会发现一大堆一眼就能从读音看出来的词。比如：炒面chow mein；点心Dim Sim；捞面Lo mein；馄饨Won ton；木须肉Mu shu pork，等等。

又比如“孔子”在英语中也是从“孔夫子”音译成Confucius。一个比较经典的笑话就是Confucius, more like confusing. 孔夫子，还不如说看勿懂。(当然，这句话一翻译就没了本身的相似读音梗)

还有两句非常常见的英语口语也是来自中文：long time no see好久不见；no can do做不到。

我们这个时代，靠着互联网和发达的航空业，不同语言之间的交流也变得越来越多，说不定很多年后，如今很多新事物也会变成习以为常的东西。

1、prospective

（1）想要成为的；可能成为的

【例句】The story should act as a warning to other prospective buyers.

这篇报道应该对其他潜在的购买者起到警示作用。

【例句】When his prospective employers learned that he smoked, they said they wouldn't hire him.

本有可能雇用他的老板们得知他吸烟后，说他们不会雇他。

（2）可能即将发生的

【例句】We need to know the terms of the prospective deal.

我们需要了解可能达成的交易的条款。

2、theory

（1）理论;学说

【例句】Einstein formulated the Theory of Relativity in 1905.

爱因斯坦于 1905 年创立了相对论。

（2）观点;见解

【例句】There was a theory that he wanted to marry her.

有人认为他想娶她。

【词组】 in theory 从理论上说;照理说

【例句】A school dental service exists in theory, but in practice, there are few dentists to work in them.

照理说，学校也有牙医诊所，可实际上，里面的牙医寥寥无几。

3、flow

（1）流动;流向

【例句】A stream flowed gently down into the valley.

一条小溪潺潺流进山谷。

（2）(人群或事物)流动，持续移动

【例句】Troops would patrol major roads to ensure that traffic flows freely throughout the country.

军队将在主要道路巡逻以确保全国的交通通畅。

（3）(信息)传播，流传;(资金)流通

【例句】An interest rate reduction is needed to get more money flowing and create jobs.

需要下调利率来推动资金流动以及创造就业机会。

4、song and dance

（1）(一人或多人的)歌舞表演

（2）小题大做;大惊小怪

【例句】He used his money to help others—but he never made a song and danceabout it.

他用自己的钱去帮助别人，却从不到处声张。

（3）解释,空洞的废话

【例句】Stop givIng us this song and dance that he was just a merchant seaman, and broke.

别再用他只是个商业海员，而且一贫如洗这种废话来搪塞我们了。

5、preach

（1）布道；传教

【例句】He denounced the decision to invite his fellow archbishop to preach.

他痛斥了邀请其他大主教布道的决定。

（2）宣传；鼓吹

【例句】For many years I have preached against war.

我多年来都在进行反战宣传。

（3）说教；唠叨

【例句】'Don't preach at me,' he shouted.

他大喊道：“不要对我说教。”
